Things He Says

Lately, when we say our nightime prayers I have been asking Cannon if there is anything he would like to pray about or thank God for.

Last night, he thanked God for golf clubs, the golf course and Baby Sutton Corder.

Tonight he thanked God for pricesses, dragons and castles (I guess he is enjoying my silly made up bedtime stories).

My Good Steward

Cannon and I have been talking about what it means to be a good steward. We have been taking care of the birds by giving them food and creating them a house and we have stopped throwing coins (somedays), etc.

This morning he went outside and came back in and he said, "Mommy I good steward, I take care my toys"! Then he handed me his toy telephone and said, "I call God, you call God". So I got on the phone with God and bragged about my good steward. Then Cannon came inside and got... the real phone and said, "Now I call Jesus".

Dedication

Our last photo as a family of three.

On Mother's Day we had our Parent-Child Dedication at Old Fort. We moved to Summerville when Cannon was 4 months old and it took a awhile to find a church home. When we finally decided God wanted us at Old Fort it was Mother's Day 2009. At our church they only have child dedications once a year so we missed it!

So this year , May 9, 2010, we were finally able to dedicate Cannon. It was a great experience and it was really nice to be able to spend time with Brett trying to decide on a scripture verse with significance to both of us and to become a "life verse" in a sense to Cannon.

Our church does a great job of incorporating the church members into this dedication as well. Both the parents, family, and the church members to make a covenant to help raise the child in a christian home, support, teach and lead the child on a Godly path. It is very touching.

We chose the following scripture for Cannon:

Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law of my servant Moses gave you, do not turn from it to the right or left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth, meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful, Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.

-Joshua 1:7-10.

Thank you to all of you that came to share in this very special day with us!
We love you very much!

Passion of the Christ from a Two Year Old

well, i have a cute video for this. but it will not load. maybe one day.

Resurrection Cookies

On Saturday night, we made resurrection cookies as a family. It was a lot of fun.

Cannon is beating the pecans with a wooden spoon to symbolize how Jesus was beaten by the Roman soldiers.

Daddy reading the scriptures as we complete each step.

Vinegar that Jesus was given to drink. Smells "yucky".

Salt to represent the bitterness of our sins.

Now for the "sweet" part of the story. That Jesus loves us so much that He died for us.

Everything gets mixed up! Notice color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus.

How sweet it is!

Our cookies. Each mound represents the tomb where Jesus body was laid.

Sealing the tomb.

This morning (Easter Sunday) when we woke up, the cookies are ready to eat. They are "hollow" or empty just like the tomb because Jesus has RISEN and He is ALIVE!

Resurrection Eggs

It was really important for us that Cannon learn the true meaning of Easter. We have several books we have been reading and we took it a step further with a a few actitivities over the last few days.

I started searching a few weeks ago for Easter ideas and I found the idea to do resurrection eggs. So last week we invited a few friends over and the Moms made the eggs while the kids played.

Cannon and I read the scripture and talked about the eggs on Friday and Saturday.

Here are our eggs. (We chose to only do six eggs...better for little attention spans).

This rope represents that fact that Jesus was arrested and beaten.

The cross that Jesus was forced to carry and then...
nails that were placed in his hands and feet to hold him on the cross.
Three days later, the stone was rolled away...
and the tomb was EMPTY!
He is Risen! He is alive and I'm forgiven. Heavens gates are open wide. He's Alive! He's Alive!
Cannon can actually tell you what each symbol stands for too. Precious.

Poem by a Diligent Mother

I'll stand in the gap for my son.
I'll stand til the victory's won.
This one thing I know
That You love him so,
And Your work with my child is not done.

I'll stand in the gap every day,
And there I will fervently pray;
And, Lord, just one favor
Don't let me waver
If things get quite rough, which they may.

I'll never give up on that boy.
Nor will You, for You promised him joy.
For I know it was true
When he said "Yes" to You,
Though the enemy seeks to destroy.

I'll not quit as I intercede,
For You are His Savior, indeed!
Though it may take years,
I give You my fears,
As I trust every moment I plead.

And so in the gap I will stand,
Heeding Your every command,
With help from above,
I'll unconditionally love,
And soon he will reach for Your hand.

Washed by the Water

I am LOVING this song by The Heat!

Even when the rain falls
Even when the flood starts rising
Even when the storm comes
I am washed by the water

Daddy was a preacher
She was his wife
Just tryin to make the world a little better
You know, shine a light
People started talking
Trying to hear their own voice
Those people tried to accuse my father
Said he made the wrong choice
Though it might be painful
You know that time will always tell
Those people have long since gone
My father never failed

Even if the Earth crumbles under my feet
Even if the ones I love turn around and crucify me
I won’t never ever let you downI won’t fallI won’t fall
I won’t fall as long as you’re around me

Even when the rain falls
Even when the flood starts rising
Even when the storm comesI am washed by the water
