Our Savannah Family

One of the great things about moving away from where you grew up is that you get to keep the family you were born with but you gain an extended family. From living in Charleston, my life merged with Elizabeth's and her wonderful family.

From Savannah we have gained so much, too. It is so comforting to see how God brought us here, sustained us and rewarded us so greatly.

When we moved to Savannah, we hated it! We went home as often as we could. Finally, we found a church we loved and committed to Savannah as home. Besides the church, one of the reasons Savannah quickly became home was the Ferguson family. Phil, Marsha, Ashley, Josh and Jessica embraced us into their family. We were invited to family dinners and birthday celebrations. They accepted us and really showed us a lot of love.

Recently, we went to Phil and Marsha's for PIZZA NIGHT! Phil is a great pizza maker and usually makes enough for an army! After dinner we shared the news that we were pregnant. It was a big surprise but they were all so excited. Everyone jumped up and hugged us, screamed, laughed and were so genuinely excited! It was the best reaction we have yet to receive and it really made us feel special. Then, Phil told us this wonderful story about love, courage and being a parent. They are the best role models. Spending time in their presence is such a gift. I have never seen anyone love their children and others as much as Phil and Marsha. In their presence, you just cannot help but feel loved!

This week Brett invited Josh and Ashley over for an impromptu dinner. Knowing that all house guests have to be invited in advance and my house has to be freshly clean before they can walk through the door. Ashley very considerately tried to find another option for us. We insisted and we shared a very boring chicken casserole with them.

Ashley and Josh brought with them our first baby gift and a very sweet card. The baby gift consisted of the HILARIOUSlY titled "butt paste", several items focused at keeping the baby quiet, so I can rest and an adorable little baby duck! The card was the best gift and it explained how happy they were for us and so excited to meet their new "nephew".

I thank God everyday for bringing us to Savannah. We have gained so much not only from our acceptance into the Ferguson family but from all of our Savannah friends ("family") that God has gifted us.

I Miss Charleston

This past weekend we went to visit Brett's brother, Ryan, in Chaleston. It was an awful time to visit because it rained the entire time. The rain seemed to be the perfect excuse to do the "best thing" in Charleston...EAT!

We started our Saturday with lunch at one of my favorite restuarants, The Mustard Seed. After 3 baskets of the BEST foccacia bread, we ate lunch. Since this baby LOVES fresh stuff I traded the risotto that I normally order for gazpacho and a salad. Brett got a gourmet pizza with corn and tomatoes and much more, Ryan and Natalie decided on pasta dishes.

After lunch we went to Boone Hall Farms for fresh tomatoes, blueberries, blackberries and boiled peanuts, then we headed to Marble Slab Creamery for dessert. After all that food, Brett and I neded a short nap. When we woke we went to eat dinner at The Wreck of Richard and Charlene, a true "hidden" dive. I had the BEST fried green tomatoes. They were barely seasoned, lightly battered and not accompanied by any fancy sauces or garnishes like the ones in the downtown restaurants and they were perfect! Those tomatoes were followed by perfect fried seafood! This restaurant is truly " a wreck", an old shabby building that you will never find unless you are with a local but it has a line out teh door even in the rain and it was wonderful!

After dinner, we saw a movie and then it was time for more dessert. This time we headed to Fonduely Yours. Melted chocolate, need I say more? A walk on Stith Street Bridge ended our evening.

Our Sunday morning, we went to a charming little restaurant on the Isle of Palms called The Sea Biscuit (once again a line out the door). Omelets and french toast were the order of the day! Yummo.

Then we headed home. I truly believe that several times a year one needs to journey to Charlston to EAT! You will never be able to visit all of the amazing restaurants this city has to offer. Visiting this weekend, reminded me that my heart still belongs to Charleston. I hope one day that God will send us back!

Thank You

As you all know from all my complaining, I have not been feeling great lately! Well, last week my dear sweet husband sent me these flowers.

Of course, I have reminded him daily of my sacrifice and how icky I feel. He has been really patient.

The card read: "Thank you for your sacrifice. I hope that you are feeling better soon. You will be a great mom. I love you- Brett".

Oooky!

Two weeks ago I got an email for a "trusty" site that included a picture of what our baby looked like that week. I sent it to Brett and he thought it was gross.

This week, I received the above picture and once again I emailed it to my sweet husband. He emailed me back, "Please do not send me these things. Oooky!"

With all the grossness that I have been experiencing recently. He should get his share, right? The only bad part is that the pictures start looking more human and less "Oooky" each week. Maybe I can find a picture of a placenta to send him! HA!

Mass Murder Possible

For the last 4-5 weeks I have felt horrible every single day. For the first 2-3 weeks after we found out I was pregnant, I had horrible stomach pains and mild cramps. Then started the nausea and it lasts all day. For a while it would go away if I ate something, however, for the last two days it will not go away at all.

I keep trying to find comfort in the "gossip" that you feel great after the 12 week mark! Please God let this be the case for me. When I wake up on the morning of week 13 if I am not feeling better I am going to kill EVERY author of EVERY baby book and EVERY "web designer" and "contributor" to EVERY website!!

I just want one good day!

Start Spreading the News...

7 week Ultrasound

We traveled to Conway and Myrtle Beach this weekend to see our families for Father's Day and to start spreading our news!

On Saturday, I met my Mom for lunch in Conway, SC. We ate at our of my favorite little downtown restaurants, The Trestle. Before we went inside I gave her a t-shirt rolled up with a ribbon around it! When she opened it she read, "I am going to be a Nana!".

She was in shock for the rest of the day!

Then, I met Michelle and Davis. We walked around Conway, in and out of several cute shops, wondered into an Art Gallery where the owner was so excited to see us that he helped us waste almost an hour of our time giving him tips on attracting "trendy and progressive people" like US! I gave Michelle a little ornament that said "One Cool Aunt" for her June 12th birthday! She opened it and said "Oh Davis, Auntie Kimbery is making sure she is your favorite!" and then I said "No, this is for Auntie Michelle"! She was so excited!

On Saturday night, we had a cookout at Brett's parents home. At one point in the evening we grabbed Tom and asked him to come into the room. We gave him a card and a bag with a polo shirt and then his t-shirt! He unrolled the t-shirt that said " I am going to be a Grandpa" and said "No WAY!" Then he started crying and hugged me and Brett! It was really sweet! We made him put the t-shirt on and he walked out to see the rest of the family! Carla said she "knew it" because I had been sick that morning! I think she was "hoping". Then she said she " was broke"! I guess she is already planning to buy all those cute baby outfits! Tom was so shaken up he could not even say grace! I think he is very excited about being a grandparent!

On Sunday, we met to see my dad and went to lunch. Prior to leaving he opened his bag of gifts and pulled out a t-shirt too! He stood there holding it up and said "What is this?" Then, he showed my brother, who came running in from the front porch, he was super excited and asked why I had been keeping it a secret for so long! Then, he called Stacy and said I just had to tell her! She was also happy.

Brett called Bill and Gisele today to tell them too! Gisele was super excited to go baby shopping!

Overall, spreading the news has been fun!
