Swimming Lessons

I have been doing some research on swimming lessons for Cannon. Everything I have read suggests a different age. So, I decided to ask my friend Michelle when she first put her son, Davis, in the pool. During that "email" she mentioned that Davis was taking swimming lessons and that is what spawned this post.

During the summer before my senior year of high school we lived at the beach (Laura, Michelle and I). We went to the beach nearly every day. Michelle was scared of the water, unlike her young son she did not take swimming lessons. When you are laying out on the beach all day you are bound to get hot and need a dip in the water. Michelle's idea of a dip was to splash around in ocean up to her ankles! Every now and then I would get her to venture off into deeper water with me! It was hilarious! We would slowly make our way out, my hands on a death grip we would stop every now and again for Michelle to gain her composure and courage! I can remember to look of fear in her eyes as she looked at the next wave, which was always the biggest wave ever!

When I started writing this post, my intentions were to point out how Michelle was probably having Davis take lessons so that he did not to live in fear of water or the big, scary ocean. But, I just had a thought. How wonderful of a friendship that you trust someone with your life in a big, scary ocean! It is not everyday that you find a friendship like that. Michelle and I both weighed about 95 pounds, although I could swim enough to probably save my own life-- could I have really saved hers? She trusted me to protect her out there and to save her too! I know I would have tried my hardest. That is what friendship is all about!

Teary-eyed.
Yes...I did trust you, but I vaguely remember trying to drown you to save my own life. So maybe the trust was really the other way around.
