A Finished Nursery

Cannon is five weeks old and I think his nursery is almost finished. Here are some pictures.

A Nursing Mother

Don't mess with a nursing mother!

It is amazing how sensitive you become when you are nursing your child.

Why is it that when the baby is gassy or fussy, people assume it is something YOU ate? From my research, infants are gassy in general, and formula fed babies more so! Do you ask a mother who gives her formula fed baby what she ate, when her baby is gassy? Probably not.

THE bottle!

On Sunday, Feb 24th, we decided to give Cannon his first bottle. We had to get him started on a bottle in preparation for daycare. After I pumped the bottle for Cannon, I began to sob. I was so distraught over giving him the bottle. I even had to call my best friend, Michelle, for support. She assured me that after some time, I would be glad that Cannon was taking a bottle and may even prefer it at times.

During my pregnancy, my biggest fear was that I would not be able to nurse Cannon. It ws so important to me and if you look back over the dreams, you'll see that I was worried! Well, thank God, Cannon latched on shortly after birth and with the exception of some of the late night feedings, he has continued to nurse very well.

Holding this little boy in my arms at 3am and looking down at his innocent little face while he nurses, knowing that I am giving him something no one else can. It isn't just about mommy's milk- its about the closeness of a sweet little boy and his mom, the bonding taking place in that moment, his sweet little hands holding me as I snuggle him. There is no way that a mom can experience this and doubt that there is a God. This perfect moment could only be created by God.

That is why I freaked out. Letting go of this moment, even for one feeding is hard.

I am ONE month old!

Today, I am one month old!

I weigh 9 pounds and 2 ounces and I am 23 inches long.

I am growing so quickly.

This week, I stayed awake for long periods of time

and spent hours looking at my mommy and talking to her.

I even gave her a real smile (I am advanced for my age!).

On Thursday night, I slept in my crib for the first time.

I think that was really hard on my Mommy,

she thinks I am growing up to fast!

I really enjoy my nightly baths and "story time" before bed.

I still hate having my diaper changed

but Mom and Dad hung a mobile above my changing table

and it sometimes distracts me from my diaper change.

I love to cuddle and sleep in Mom and Dad's arms.

Oliver and Graham are still scared of me!

I am still eating every 2.5 - 3 hours.

Mom nurses me around 11 pm each night

and many nights I do not wake her again until 3 am!

Then, I like to eat again around 6-7 am.

Mom and Dad are still trying to figure me out!

It is fun to watch these "amateurs", as I always keep 'em guessing!

Basically, I am a happy boy!

Apparently, I am pretty cute too,

as Mom and Dad seem to never tire of kissing me!

Cannon and Anna Kate Meet

Cannon met his little girlfriend, Anan Kate today.
She was born yesterday. She is absolutely beautiful.
He slept through the entire encounter!

She actually weighs 6 ounces more than Cannon weighed when he was born, but she looked so little. I thought Cannon was still so small, but when I looked at Anna- he was huge!
I kept commenting on how small she was.
It was so strange because it seems like Cannon was never that tiny and I know he was.
Again, I found myself getting a little sad...my little boy is growing so quickly.

Pictures of Cannon this week.

Cannon's First Bath

Last Wednesday, Brett and I decided to give Cannon his first bath. We braced ourselves for screaming and an unhappy baby! We were so surprised that he LOVED his bath! Look at this happy baby!

Second Freak OUT!

Okay, okay, Michelle I get it! You were right!
On Wednesday night, I noticed Cannon was extra snotty! I also noticed that he was gagging a little when he took a deep breath. (The snot was leaking down his throast and he hated it! I gag when this happens to me as well!) I pulled him in the bed with me, suctioned his nose and watched him most of the night.
On Thursday, I called the doctor. I was instrutced to keep using the nasal aspirator, squirt saline in his nose and run the humdifier.
I followed my instructions but last night, he sounded even worse! Everytime he would breath he sounded as if he could not get any air! I kept him in bed with me again and jumped at every noise that he made! At 8:01 am I was placing another call to the doctor's office. This child had to be seen, what if he could not breath!!! So I take him and the doctor says I am doing everything right and that is all we can do. Cannon's lungs sounded fine, but he could hear the snot in his nose! I was instructed to get him some baby afrin and give it to him 6 times a day! So far, we have visited the peditrician FOUR times only TWO were for well-baby checkups!
Good news...He weighs 8 pounds 14 ounces!

First FREAK OUT!

Okay, I have been making fun of my friend Michelle for some time because she has her Pediatrician and Poison Control on speed dial. Throughout my pregnancy everytime I was worried about something she assured me that it would only get worse!
Well, Monday night we noticed that Cannon had a yellow discharge coming from one eye. I wiped it with a warm cloth and minutes later there was more yucky stuff. I started panicking and began to analyze every aspect of his behavior for the entire day.
Finally, Brett decided to call the pediatrician. We had to answer 1 million questions and then take his temperature. Since he did not have a temperature we were isntructed to watch him and take him to the office to see the doctor on Tuesday. When we got to the doctor, his eye looked fine.
She gave him a antibotic just in case and instructed us to massage his little nose
becuase she thinks he has a clogged tear duct.
While we were there, he was weighed and weighs 7 pounds 13 ounces!!!
We have our "well-baby" check up tomorrow.

Our Little Boy has His First Photo Shoot

First Milestone

Cannon lost his little umblical cord "stump" today. It was a sad moment, I felt as if he was growing up to quick! I am sure this is just the beginning.
